I told her we didn't ask for a specific room and to just give us any King room that is clean. At our turn, we were told the room is not ready yet.WHAT? Apparently the original person assigned a specific room to us- However knowing that they had our money 4 hours earlier you would expect that room to have been cleaned. Each party getting a key and heading off to a room. There was only 1 person working and a long line. At 4, no call yet so we went to get the key and a room. They wanted us to pay and then would call when the room was cleaned. There were 2 employees at the counter at noon- not a busy time.

We arrived early to gamble but went to the Lodge to let them know we were there. We made reservations ahead of time and knew check in was 4pm. We decided to have an overnight getaway to this small lodge and casino. Reserve through the Vagabond website for the best pricing. Anyway, the Vagabond is likely the best place to stay in Corning and probably better than any place you can stay along the I-5 corridor of Northern California. For some people, that might sound like a lot of fun but for our family, it looked a little sad. The breakfast buffet was great but we had to walk through the casino, around the chain smokers attached to their slot machine handles at 8 in the morning. I just didn't like the cigarette smoke smell (I couldn't smell it in the room just in the hallways and lobby) and I personally am not a casino person. Some people might see this as a good thing and in fact a lot of the patrons made use of the fact that they could have their fun at the casino and then sleep it off in the motel. I would have given the hotel/motel an excellent review except for the fact that it is connected to a casino. We also got vouchers for a free breakfast buffet on the other side of the casino. There is an indoor swimming pool that we used. There were slate tiles in the bathroom and the fixturings were definately a step up from most budget motels. The room we got was spacious, including the bathroom and just felt nice. Corning seemed to be a good, inexpensive place to rest. We took a trip down to the San Francisco Bay Area and wanted to stop somewhere on the way.
